Ange confirms Udogie out for six weeks with injury as 'illness bug' hits Spurs squad

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that defender Destiny Udogie will be sidelined for six weeks following a hamstring injury sustained during the 2-2 draw against Wolves on Sunday. The injury occurred early in the second half, adding to Tottenham's growing list of absentees in a challenging period for the club.

The 22-year-old left-back is the latest casualty in what has become a significant injury crisis for Spurs. Postecoglou is now dealing with seven injured players, including four members of his first-choice defensive line. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and center-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are all unavailable, compounding the defensive issues caused by Udogie’s absence.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham's upcoming Premier League clash against Newcastle, Postecoglou said: Destiny (Udogie) with his hamstring, it looks around sort of the six-week mark missing for him. We lose (Rodrigo) Bentancur to suspension. None of the injured ones are back yet. He also addressed another issue affecting the squad: "We've had a bit of an illness bug running through the squad as well, so a few were missing in training, but that's alright, we'll be alright.

The illness within the camp has raised concerns about additional absentees for the Newcastle game. When asked if more players might miss the match due to sickness, Postecoglou responded: I'm not sure yet. We'll see. Despite the uncertainty, the Australian manager remained optimistic about navigating the current challenges.

On the potential return of injured players, Postecoglou offered a glimmer of hope, stating: At this stage, Richie [Richarlison] and Mikey Moore are the two next cabs off the rank, hopefully, next week at some point." However, the immediate task of fielding a competitive squad against a high-flying Newcastle side remains a daunting prospect.

Spurs' injury troubles have come at a critical juncture in the season, with the team seeking to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table. The loss of key defensive players and the absence of Bentancur due to suspension will undoubtedly test the depth of Postecoglou's squad.

The illness and injury setbacks underline the challenges faced by Tottenham in a congested fixture period. With seven players sidelined and the possibility of further disruptions due to the sickness bug, Postecoglou must rely on the resilience and adaptability of his remaining squad members. Despite these hurdles, the manager's upbeat demeanor suggests he is prepared to find solutions as Spurs aim to keep their campaign on track.
