John Dumelo Mourns Father’s Passing, Reflects on Final Moments Together

John Dumelo, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has announced the passing of his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr, at the age of 75. The actor and politician shared the heartbreaking news on social media, detailing the emotional final moments he spent with his father just hours before his death.

In an emotional Facebook post, Dumelo reflected on their last conversation, which took place the day before his father’s passing. "At age 75, you lived your life well. Yesterday you called me several times that I come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming, and business and of course, we gossiped," Dumelo wrote, remembering their time together fondly.

The MP-elect also shared how his father gave him specific advice ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, which was set to take place just days after his passing. "We spoke about my swearing-in in 3 days' time, and you told me specifically to serve diligently in government," Dumelo recalled. These words now resonate deeply with the MP-elect as he prepares to take on his new role.

However, Dumelo’s time with his father was tragically cut short. After leaving his father’s home, Dumelo received a distressing call just minutes later, informing him that his father had become unresponsive. "Ten minutes after I left your house, I was called that you were not being responsive. I came back, we rushed you to the hospital, and you were gone," he shared in the post, expressing the shock and grief he felt in those final moments.

In his tribute, Dumelo expressed immense gratitude for the guidance and support his father provided throughout his life. "Thanks for being my father, thanks for being my best friend, thanks for being my number 1 cheerleader, and thanks for everything you did for me," he wrote, emphasizing the deep bond they shared.

He concluded his post with a heartfelt farewell, saying, "Say hi to mum for us all….we will miss you. Rest in perfect peace, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr."

Dumelo’s loss comes at a pivotal moment in his political career. Recently elected as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Dumelo won the seat by a margin of 2,200 votes, defeating incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan. As he prepares for his swearing-in ceremony, Dumelo will carry his father's final advice to serve diligently as he embarks on his new journey in parliament.
